Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton has been ranked the second-best golf community in the country by Travel + Leisure Golf magazine. Five other Lowcountry communities also made the top 100.
Communities were rated in five categories: golf; quality of housing; community amenities and activities; location, including natural setting and proximity to cultural activities; and miscellaneous items.
"Although we don't consider Palmetto Bluff a golf community per se, because of all the other recreational amenities that are here, it is nevertheless very gratifying to be recognized in this manner by such a credible publication," Bill Peacher, general manager and chief operating officer, said in a statement.
No. 1 on the list was Sea Island on Sea Island, Ga.
Spring Island in Okatie ranked 23rd overall, lauded for environmental stewardship and lifelong learning opportunities, according to the magazine.
The magazine didn't rank 26 through 100 by number, and the area's four other communities on the list didn't rank in the magazine's top 25. They are Belfair, Berkeley Hall and Colleton River Plantation in greater Bluffton, and Long Cove Club on Hilton Head Island.
Other South Carolina communities on the list were Kiawah Island, ranked fifth; The Cliffs Communities in Travelers Rest, seventh; and Daniel Island Park in Charleston and The Reserve at Lake Keowee in Sunset.
This was the second time in the last year that Palmetto Bluff ranked second in a national magazine. The Inn at Palmetto Bluff was named the No. 2 resort in the United States by Conde Nast Traveler magazine in October.
The Travel + Leisure rankings came out in January. |
